My Warren Buffett Bible: A Short and Simple Guide to Rational Investing: 292 Quotes From the World's Most Successful Investor
My Warren Buffett Bible: A Short and Simple Guide to Rational Investing: 292 Quotes From the World's Most Successful Investor
Nice little book of the collection of key quotes from Warren Buffet. Lot of white space on the pages. But was what I expected. Most quotes are one to a few sentences in length. One of the longer ones is kind of a summary of Buffet's principles of investing (not gambling), on page 57. It was about a half page long, and the last sentence says it all: "How much more fruitful is it for us to think about whether the product is likely to sustain itself and its economies than to try to be questioning whether to jump in or out of the stock?"
Of Permanent Value: The Story of Warren Buffett/2014 Endless Extra Edition
Of Permanent Value: The Story of Warren Buffett/2014 Endless Extra Edition
The new edition of Andy Kilpatrick's fascinating biography of Warren Buffett, Of Permanent Value, is a large compilation of details about Buffett's life history. There are more than 2,000 pictures throughout the book that add interest to the well-written history of the man, his colleagues, family, and friends.

The author became fascinated with Buffett early on. He set out to document what he learned by writing it all down in this excellent book, adding new information every one to two years. Thus the new 2014 edition is named "Endless Edition" so that the reader is aware that much of what is found here is recent.

I heartily recommend Mr. Kilpatrick's book as an important addition to the reader's library. The reader will enjoy the lay-out, including the easy to read text, the arrangement of chapters, the many quips and conversations between Buffett and his acerbic partner, Charlie Munger, many new and interesting details about his rise to fame and fortune, and fully indexed notes.

I bought this book just before attending the Berkshire-Hathaway Annual Meeting in Omaha, May 2014. I began reading the book before arriving in Omaha and found the information contained within added so much more to my experience at the meeting. I learned that the author attends this meeting regularly and has done so for several decades. I met with him there and gained a new-found admiration for his work on documenting Buffet's life and for his dedication to teaching others through this fine book.
The Power of Mandate: How Visionary Leaders Keep Their Organization Focused on What Matters Most
The Power of Mandate: How Visionary Leaders Keep Their Organization Focused on What Matters Most
I work for a 60 year old company that had the original entrepreneur running it for the first 55 years. When one of his ideas didn't work, he quickly moved onto the next idea. As long as something worked, it wasn't negotiable. After he sold the business, the new owners brought in a group of leaders who were all over the place. Everyone's ideas, even conflicting ones, were implemented all at the same time. And the worst part was, none of them new anything about the business or tried to learn about it. It was all about driving sales at any cost. To employees and customers! They were dismissed by the board in a blaze of glory as the masses cheered. We now have one person in charge again, who knows the business, is committed to keeping employees happy so we can keep our customers satisfied. We now have new non-negotiable guidelines that have been clearly communicated. And they actually are ones that make sense. Sure, with thousands of employees, many will not be pleased with the changes because they are a disagreeable type with no vision of their own future. This book hits a nerve with my career experience. However, it goes on and on with tired examples of exceptionally famous people and their rehashed life stories. If you are just starting out and looking for mentors to give you a vision, mould your career strategy, give you hope that you will one day become a visionary leader, that you, too can become a billionaire, then you should read this book for inspiration. If you are currently in a leadership position, and wondering what you are doing wrong, yeah, it's too late to get ideas from this book. If you experiment with a new management style now with the same staff, you'll get mocked out of a job. And for heaven's sake, if you don't know what you are doing, think you can fool people with bolsterous retoric, see panic and disbelief in the eyes of everyone you talk to, and know in your heart and mind that you are in over your head, just resign, and run for president of the United States.
Beat Your A-Fib: The Essential Guide to Finding Your Cure: Written in everyday language for patients with Atrial Fibrillation
Beat Your A-Fib: The Essential Guide to Finding Your Cure: Written in everyday language for patients with Atrial Fibrillation
"Beat Your A-Fib" outlines all the treatment options both invasive & dietary. I will address the dietary because that worked for my A-Fib triggered by auto-immune issues. The book mentions a number of nutrients that should be in your diet. The important ones available from Amazon are - taurine, magnesium glycinate (a non-laxative form of magnesium), co-enzyme Q10.

Learn what to eliminate in your diet - all the usual suspects: MSG, salt, sugar, & less calcium. Get the book & implement the dietary changes before proceeding to invasive procedures or prescription drugs with their side effects. Go to Hans Larson's Afib Report website for additional dietary advice & read his review of this book in among the 5 star reviews. You might also look at Dr Fuhrman's "End Of Heart Disease" which advocates a plant based diet, instead of potassium, magnesium & CoQ10 supplements. Green leafy vegetables are loaded with magnesium according to PhD Rhonda Patrick, which you can confirm in her videos on YouTube. If short of time, get a blender for your vegetables to create a banana smoothie.

Update - As of 8-17, still A-Fib symptom free. I might add that the nurse NP at the VA was asking me about taurine and magnesium as a potential treatment. Doctors are worried that A-Fib will cause the slowed blood flow in the atrium to coagulate, clot & cause a stroke, but are constrained from telling you about untested natural anti-coagulants like ginger, garlic, fish oil, low dose aspirin & vitamin E (mixed tocopherols). In the UK (not the US), see Dr Sanjay Gupta's extensive videos on A-Fib on YouTube for an in-depth discussion of the issues with A-Fib. According to Dr Gupta, research exists that strokes may only occur with A-Fib when other health issues such as insulin resistance or GERD are present.
Six Tycoons: The Lives of John Jacob Astor, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, Henry Ford and Joseph P. Kennedy
Six Tycoons: The Lives of John Jacob Astor, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, Henry Ford and Joseph P. Kennedy
The thing that struck me most about this book was the horrible editing. This work contained a gross amount of spelling errors (and I am not referring to British spellings) including omitted letters and conjoined words. Even further, there were grammatical mistakes that made a few sentences almost impossible to grasp without having to reread them 4 or 5 times.
Although Derbyshire's prose was engaging he related quite a few anecdotes that pages later he would claim to be "unlikely" of being true. These anecdotes not being pertinent to the character of the tycoons, one wonders why they were included at all.

My two cents: find six separate biographies from a renowned publisher. These are unlikely to contain editing errors and will go into more depth. Don't waste your time or money on this one.
Bob Dylan: Prophet, Mystic, Poet
Bob Dylan: Prophet, Mystic, Poet
Not only do I enjoy Bob Dylan's music and songwriting but the development of Jewish and Christian traditions is something that I enjoy reading about and studying as a spiritual person. Needless to say, I was quite pleased when I discovered that someone had embarked upon the task of documenting references, either direct or indirect, of Dylan's Jewish heritage and how that heritage has affected his songwriting and life. Unfortunately, Dylan's Jewishness has often been neglected in writings about him. It's generally passed over as a piece of trivia, not as a contributive identity. He is recognized as the singer, the songwriter, the poet, even the prophet - but what about Dylan the Jew? Of course, the book doesn't treat Dylan's religious beliefs directly, but it surely surmises.

Overall, the book was a quick read yet highly informed and thus highly informative. It easily ranks among the best books on Dylan currently available. The author, a longtime follower and researcher of Dylan, tries hard not to repeat too much information available elsewhere while also acknowledging that there are some very basic facts which newcomers - whether to the musician or the literature about him - need to know. Such is inevitable. Where this book excels is in connecting the imagery found in the biblical prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, et. al.) and Dylan's lyrics. Even the staunchest biblicist might not readily be able to see such otherwise apparent parallels, but Rogovoy has done his research. There are moments when the connection cannot be explained any other way than to suggest that Dylan was as intimately familiar with the texts of Jewish tradition as he was with the works or Rimbaud, Brecht, and William Blake.

That being said, however, at times the connections between the biblical prophets and Dylan's lyrics seem forced, sometimes based on little more than a few matching words even when context seems to demand exclusive interpretations. Outside of John Wesley Harding and New Morning and other explicit moments of Dylan's affluence for biblical imagery, there are definitely moments when the thesis of the book is stretched to its outermost limits applying biblical or talmudic references when in fact there is very little or no connection at all. The author displays a tendency to connect words or three-word phrases to themes which have very little business being connected. For this reason, the album-by-album, song-by-song exegesis which serves as the layout of practically the entire book soon grows long in the tooth and sometimes proves to be redundant. By the mid-'80s, Dylan's songs seems to have settled upon a few ideological bases which inform his work from that point forward with only slight modifications whether that be in terms of degree or perception. Thus, when Rogovoy's explication of "Shot of Love" and "Infidels" highlights that Dylan's songs increasingly focus on a "world gone wrong," the final pages of the book could easily be skipped without missing much new revelation on the subject.

Even though the author and Harold Lepidus (of the Bob Dylan Examiner, who assisted Rogovoy with the book) both state that Dylan's religious beliefs are not directly dealt with in the book, it's difficult not to read the chapters titled "Burnt Offerings" and the following "Psalms" somewhat apologetically. Despite what the author states in interviews, there is definitely a certain emphasis placed upon attempting to extract Dylan from his "born-again Christian" identification. For example, in the chapter titled "Psalms," when discussing the song "When The Night Comes Falling From The Sky," specifically the lines "I don't want to be a fool starving for affection/I don't want to drown in someone else's wine," Rogovoy interprets these lines as suggesting that Dylan is recanting his earlier acceptance of wine as Jesus' blood (as is believed by many evangelical and Catholic Christians) and that the born-again Christian period was merely a phase promulgated by a love relationship. In short, Dylan was and is not a true Christian believer. Taking this concept further, Rogovoy interprets the final verse of the song "Man of Peace" as referring to Dylan's return to his distinctive Jewish identity by suggesting that Dylan was beginning to view Jesus as Satan. A proper analysis of these lines within the context of the song, though, do not warrant even a hint of this type of surreptitious, nuanced interpretation. Despite what the author says about his not getting directly involved in Dylan's religious affairs, it nonetheless seems apparent that Rogovoy isn't going to allow Dylan to stray far from the Jewish fold. In this vein, Rogovoy attempts to suggest that the concept of Jesus as Messiah and as Dylan's personal savior is not quite as implicit in the songs of this born-again time period as some people might otherwise claim, thus attempting to resurrect the albums Slow Train Coming and Saved for pundits of whatever creed; however, he fails to read between the lines, not recognizing allusions to Jesus even when the name "Jesus" isn't referenced. The very cover art of the album Slow Train Coming symbolically alludes to faith in Jesus as Messiah. Where Rogovoy excels in his understanding of traditional Judaism, he alternatively displays a certain ignorance when it comes to Christianity and the Christian tradition, including everything from classical exegesis to the high arts - the very things which help to inform the imagery of Slow Train Coming, Saved, and even Shot of Love (which the author excludes from this period despite thereference to the Gospel of Matthew in the liner notes). For this reason, he fails to properly acknowledge the Jewish roots of Christianity, thus accounting for why the images found in the lyrics of Dylan's born-again "phase" may seem like an extension of his Jewish heritage.

Aside from these criticisms, the book ought to be applauded as pioneering a whole new brand of Dylan research. I look forward to further books and articles which expand upon the thesis of this book while exercising some constraint for the sake of precision.
Dylan & Petty - Live on the Radio '86
Dylan & Petty - Live on the Radio '86

Margaritaville Key West Frozen Concoction Maker with Easy Pour Jar and XL Ice Reservoir
Margaritaville Key West Frozen Concoction Maker with Easy Pour Jar and XL Ice Reservoir
We've had a Key West margarita maker for many years and it has operated flawlessly. So when we were looking for a present, we thought this would be the perfect gift. Unfortunately, it is just partially perfect.

The newest version of the Margaritaville Key West Frozen Concoction Maker (hereafter referred to as "margarita maker") has a few changes from our old one. On the good side, the blender lid now has a flip-up spout so that you don't need to take the lid off to pour a glass of deliciousness. I might be looking for some new lids for the two blender jars we have. Yeah, it is a little thing, but a good thing.

The downside, and why this review is only three stars, is that the new margarita maker jams. Those half-moon shaped pieces of ice from an icemaker are particularly problematic. You'll start a batch, it will shave the ice perfectly, and maybe you want your margarita a little thicker. Hit the "shave ice" switch and instead of satisfyingly loud ice-shaving noises, you just hear a loud "I'm jammed again" hum. So, open the ice reservoir, and poke and prod the ice at the bottom, all the while ignoring the "sharp blade" warning. In the end, I suspect someone got a laceration poking around in the older margarita maker like ours (which NEVER has jammed) and Margaritaville had to redesign the ice shaving mechanism to avoid lawsuits. Of course, now that you have to get your fingers down there in sharp-blade-land, you've increased the chance of cuts, and that doesn't make much sense.

Using smaller ice, like bagged ice from your local market, seems to cut down on the jams, but it does not eliminate them. I guess getting crushed ice from your refrigerator ice maker could also solve the problem.

So, while this margarita maker does make a tasty and well-blended beverage, it only does that when it works properly. Until the jamming issue is solved, only three stars.
G Fuel Bahama Mama Tub (40 Servings) Elite Energy and Endurance Formula 9.8 oz. Inspired by Roman Atwood
G Fuel Bahama Mama Tub (40 Servings) Elite Energy and Endurance Formula 9.8 oz. Inspired by Roman Atwood
I'll start by saying that I deal with shift change a lot and G Fuel has been a game-changer for me. Not only with how much better it makes me feel after a shift change, but my physical performance has never been better at work. Not only that but it's a cost-effective way for me to do so. Because I use this a few times a week I try to mix up my flavors now and then. Not all the flavors are great. As an example Cotton Candy was my 2nd G Fuel Tub I ordered and it almost caused me to never try any other flavors again it was so bad. G Fuel seems to have three distinct characteristics when it comes to flavor,1 the flavor itself, 2 bitterness, 3 vitamin flavor (like the chewable Flintstone kind). This is how they rank for me.

They rank in this order

1. Bahama Mama (good flavor, no bitterness, no vitamin taste)
2. Strawberry Banana (good flavor, no bitterness, no vitamin taste)
3. Rainbow Sherbet (good flavor, very slight bitterness, no vitamin taste)
4. Strawberry Kiwi (good flavor, no bitterness, slight vitamin taste)
5. PewdiePie Lingonberry (good flavor, moderate bitterness, slight vitamin taste, very sour unlike lingonberries )
6. Cotton Candy ( okay flavor, overpowering bitterness, strong vitamin taste)

This is a great inverter! It has plenty of power. I ran my shop vac 6.5 hp, 8 gallon air compressor and steamer on this unit and it gets the job done! Got it to replace my 4,000 watt gas generator and 2500 watt inverter. Runnig it off 2 batteries for now. Planning to get 2 more batteries. They're class 31 deep cycle batteries. Haven't used it on a long job yet but im confident it will perform well or I'll be revisiting this post!

Academic Conversations: Classroom Talk that Fosters Critical Thinking and Content Understandings
Academic Conversations: Classroom Talk that Fosters Critical Thinking and Content Understandings
I buy lots of books about how to improve instruction in reading and writing, and I am so often disappointed. The books always seem to be written by people who have never spent much time in a real classroom and whose ideas seem more applicable to small children than grown up college students, the audience for which I write. But this book is a wonderful exception and I find much of what they say about framing conversations can be integrated into instruction for reading and writing.

I particularly like the way they define terms many others use in a vague and general way. They don't even let a word like "evidence," often thrown around but seldom defined, go unexplained and they define it as a "Broad term used for any information that logically supports a hypothesis or perspective." They also offer very good and, again, very specific suggestions for in class exercises, like "quotation negotiation," where the instructor posts a theme or opinion and then distributes different quotations to the class. Students then decide which ones support the stated theme or opinion and which ones don't. LOTS of great ideas here, with equally concrete examples for practice. A must have if you are interested in teaching students to read, write, think, and oh yes, converse in a way that will help them in school or, for that matter, at work. Kudos to the authors.

Brush with Bamboo Toothbrush with Plant-Based Bristles, Organic Bamboo, BPA-Free, Eco-Friendly, 100% Biobased, Soft Bristles, Zero Waste, Dental Care Product - 4 Pack
I love the idea of these brushes. I haven’t loved the experience of using them as much as I wanted to love them. It’s only been a month so I am hoping I will continue to adjust. I also started using a new toothpaste powder at the same time (Orawellness), so it is likely a combination of the two that is causing some discomfort. I ordered the package of four, but now I wish I had ordered just one toothbrush because I think the main trouble I’m having is that I find the brush part to be very large - it feels huge. Next time I would like to try the children’s size as I think that will be a better fit for me. I hadn’t realized the adult sized ones were bigger than the average plastic toothbrush or I would have done that to begin with because I have a smaller mouth with TMJ issues so space is tight in there, lol. The bristles are fine, but because of the size they are irritating my gums in the back and making it painful to brush back there. I’m going to give it a little while longer and then I’m going to try and get my hands on the smaller size and see if that helps. Since the size issue has nothing to do with the quality of the product I still think it deserves 4-5 stars. I love the ethics of the company and we need more people to switch to sustainable products like these ones. My one comment, purely to do with personal preference, is the sensory aspect of using the brush combined with the slight ‘woody’ taste, while not unbearable, are not my favourite. I do believe I will adjust to them in time, and I do believe the sensory feeling is largely related to the grittiness of the powdered toothpaste in combination with the wooden handle (it gives me a very mild ‘fingernails on a blackboard’ sensation).
Rubie's Men's Marvel Captain America: Civil War Deluxe Costume, Standard
Rubie's Men's Marvel Captain America: Civil War Deluxe Costume, Standard
The positives: For the price, costume looks and fits pretty good. True to image. Negatives: I removed the added stuffing in the chest as it isn't needed and looked silly all puffed out. I added some fabric Velcro (from Home Depot) to the back where it fastens as it has 3 small Velcro squares that aren't enough to keep it closed (your back is exposed). I also added Velcro to the belt as it's made for someone with a larger waist. The boot covers are made for someone with tiny child size feet, so I may add a bit of Velcro to hold to the front of my shoes. As for the mask...give it to a small child and order a better full mask (what I did). I will still enjoy costume as we'll be on a cruise for Halloween
Galactus The Devourer (Galactus The Devourer (1999))
Galactus The Devourer (Galactus The Devourer (1999))
The story starts with the Mole Man stealing a sewage treatment plant from New York City when a space ships crashes warning of the coming of Galactus. Never say Louise Simonson didn’t like big beginnings. In order to save the Earth the Silver Surfer once again becomes his herald. It turns out Galactus has gone mad with hunger which is actually making him sick. That’s shown in his first appearance where he looks aged and weathered. The story centers around whether the Surfer and Earth’s heroes can find a way to cure Galactus of his sickness.

I always enjoy a good Galactus story and Simonson weaves a strong tale. The main problem is the art. It’s split between Jon Muth and John Buscema. I don’t like Muth’s style at all. it looks like sketches instead of finished work. Buscema of course is a Marvel master. The problem is all the art was finished by Bill Sienkiewicz who had a very artistic approach, similar to the Impressionists even. He ruins a lot of panels with his style unfortunately.

Product is OK, easy to apply. Adhesion could be better. Unfortunately, 3rd party vendor shipped protective carton in flat Amazon bubble bag. First order arrived with crushed carton which damaged several wipe packets. Couldn't use crushed carton to store wipes.

Second order was also in flat Amazon bubble bag. Bag arrived open and empty. Handed empty bag back to driver; he said he'd report empty bag. Worse yet, next day SAME empty bag redelivered!

Amazon Support couldn't or wouldn't instruct vendor to resend in small shipping carton. No other vendor or source available.

Amazon refunded purchase to credit card which took 3 business days.

Three Complete Novels (The Servants of Twilight / Darkfall / Phantoms)
Three Complete Novels (The Servants of Twilight / Darkfall / Phantoms)
I really enjoyed "Phantoms", but "The Servants of Twilight" and "Darkfall" were rather mediocre, and quite forgettable. "Phantoms" is a well written, suspenseful story with likable characters, and it kept me guessing right through the end... and when the "villain" was finally revealed, I was thoroughly impressed!

Though this collection is a good value, I was not particularly impressed with the quality of the physical book itself. Since the publisher's goal was to cram three full-length novels into one collection, the result is a book with very small font type with a ton of text on each page. After getting accustomed to reading on my Kindle, there's no way I can go back to reading a book that's printed in this style.

Miracle at Augusta
Miracle at Augusta
Having read many of Patterson's other works, including "Miracle on the 17th Green", I looked forward to reading this book. However I was very disappointed by it.

First, the book is very short. This may explain the minimal development of characters. If I hadn't already read the 17th Green book, I wouldn't have understood or appreciated the main character, Travis McKinley, at all. Jerzy, the teenage golfer mentored by Travis, is so poorly described as to be almost ghostlike. The book is overpriced for a "novelette".

In addition I found golfing material in the book to be unrealistic. The suspension of disbelief necessary in reading this book is enormous. Professional golfers would never mistake a lofted 9 iron for the much flatter 6 iron. Augusta could never be entered by simply wading Rae's creek, and a novice golfer simply couldn't attain the claimed proficiency in a couple of weeks (or years!).

I suspect that Patterson's coauthor DeJonge was given primary responsibility for this book and that the galleys were rushed to the publisher with little if any polishing by the master himself. The quality of this work is simply not up to the high standard of story telling in Patterson's other fine works.

Wirklich gutes Hörbuch.

Möchte bei Hörbüchern sehr zurückhaltende Sprecher. Kein herumschreien, rufen usw.

Practicing the Power: Welcoming the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in Your Life
Practicing the Power: Welcoming the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in Your Life
Now what? Many Christians today are theologically convinced of the ongoing work of the Spirit (continuationists), but who have not seen the practices of the Spirit in our churches, and who desperately want to see God glorified in healings and by verbal prophecy and experience firsthand the edification of the gift of tongues delivered and interpreted. It can be a daunting challenge to simply wait. So, what are we to do while we wait? Or should we stop waiting and start acting?

Into these perplexing questions comes a tremendous book from Sam Storms, the Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision at Bridgeway Church in Oklahoma City.

Numerous books have been written which give the necessary biblical and theological foundations for what Sam Storms calls Charismatic Calvinism (works by scholars like Wayne Grudem and D. A. Carson). And numerous books have been written which share encouraging stories and experiences from Charismatic Calvinists (works by scholars like Jack Deere and Storms). But not much has been written for the Christian who is a convinced Charismatic Calvinist theologically, but a Cessationist functionally.

Storms has written for “theologically sophisticated followers of Christ who are open to and hungry for the present tense voice of the Spirit while always subject to the functional and final authority of the written text of Scripture” (13). If you want to go deeper in pursuing the power of the Spirit, or if you are a pastor or church leader who wants to help others go deeper in pursuing the power of the Spirit, Storms’s book will help.

He assumes, “The power of the miraculous charismata is still available for those who believe, pray for, and humbly pursue it” (15). But he nuances that assumption well. First, he realizes, “Bible-believing evangelicals will never be truly open to the pursuit of spiritual gifts unless they see them clearly taught in Scripture” (28). So pastors, we must teach, teach, teach. And he also realizes, “God is far more pleased with our obedience than he is with our success. . . . We please him not by always producing results but by always practicing obedience” (30–31). Which means, we are responsible to simply ask, seek, and knock; God is responsible to empower us and apportion gifts to us as he pleases. Again, Storms challenges us, “The reception of a spiritual gift is dependent on one’s prayer for it. Ask and you shall receive. Don’t ask, and you shouldn’t expect to receive” (43–44). Again, “There is little, if any, hope for the proper use of spiritual gifts apart from a focused and consistent commitment to praying” (45).

But he is wise to also admit, “The Holy Spirit wants to be pursued but refuses to be pushed” and then to counsel readers, “If you find yourself lacking a specific spiritual gift, notwithstanding your persistent and passionate prayers that it might be granted to you, the time may come when you should pause and thank God for whatever gifts he has been pleased to bestow and move on in the ministry he has already granted you” (35).

His advice is not only practical; it gets to the heart of our pursuit of God and his gifts. “If you are a leader or teacher thinking of teaching on prayer, I recommend making it your goal through the teaching to increase the level of expectancy in the hearts of your people when they pray for themselves or for others” (50). God accomplishes much through the heartfelt trust of those who cry out to him: “Otherwise humanly impossible feats, events that require supernatural and miraculous power, can occur when prayer is filled with faith” (54).

One of the most significant connections this book made for me was the power of fasting for receiving spiritual gifts. Storms writes, “Fasting is the first cousin to prayer in the sense that together they are the ordained means by which God is pleased to give us what we need” (58). Our Savior himself modeled this practice: “As Jesus was standing on the brink of the most important public ministry the world had ever seen, he chose to fast!” (63). Perhaps we have not seen greater spiritual growth and power simply because we have not sought God with the intensity and commitment fasting represents.

Storms also believes God still heals today—and he gives practical advice for seeking such healing. “When I pray for people to be healed, I typically ask them to confess out loud their belief that God is able to heal them. I suggest you do the same” (71). Again, he counsels, “Begin with an attempt to get at the underlying root of sin or addiction in a person’s life, followed by a call to repentance and encouragement to make certain alterations in one’s habits of life and choices” (77).

I also appreciate Storms’s willingness to go where other teachers might shrink back from out of discomfort; for instance, demon possession and deliverance. He writes, “The foundation of biblical deliverance ministry is a clear understanding of Christian identity and the authority believers have in Christ” (152). The gospel changes everything—even the dark, scary aspects of life.

The only subject I wish Storms had spent more time on was advice for those pursuing the gift of speaking in tongues. There seems to be very little such practical, concrete advice for those who are committed to the word of God—the very word that says, “I want you all to speak in tongues” (1 Corinthians 14:5). Many seem to shy away from this particular gift, I believe, because it is so unusual and, quite frankly, because it embarrasses us. Please don’t misunderstand me: I don’t think Storms shied away from this issue—and certainly not out of fear or embarrassment. He addresses his experience at length in his book
Reading the Classics with C. S. Lewis
Reading the Classics with C. S. Lewis
This is a terrific book for anyone who loves literature and C.S. Lewis. While a familiarity with some classical literature and with Lewis's works will undoubtedly help the reader, I think the book stands on its own as a most pleasurable read. To me it poses the "C. S. Lewis Paradox": with respect to literary criticism, Lewis wanted his readers to prefer the primary text, i.e., the book or poem itself, not its criticism. Yet Lewis's criticism, and his life, like Samuel Johnson's, are so interesting that I find myself drawn again and again to reading them (their critical views) and about them (their lives). This book is a fascinating chronological journey through literature, with outstanding essays written about each period and Lewis's thought, his books and essays, and his contributions to understanding the period. In addition, there are topical essays on such subjects as fantasy and science fiction. The essayists write about Lewis's anticipation of, and response to, "modernism" and "postmodernism" in literary theory. Lewis draws the reader back to the sheer love of literature and, as always, writes with great power and clarity. (Of course, The Pilgrim's Regress is a bit complicated.) Lovers of literature will find a kindred spirit in Lewis and in this excellent series of essays.

Japanese Prints Michener
Japanese Prints Michener
The book contains a wonderful discussion by James Michener about his ideas for Japanese prints and illustrated by prints in his collection. Michener's collection is now mostly at the Honolulu Art Museum and is a world-class collection. However, in this book the prints are illustrated by only black and white reproductions. The original book had colored versions of his prints. In another review of the original book the colored reproductions were not good so the fact that these are black and white does detract from the discussion by Michener but not the quality of the print images. Most of the print images are available on-line now days, especially at the Honolulu Art Museum, so that can be used to study the prints more closely. Michener gives a lively sense of the people and society which generated these prints and opines somewhat about art movements in general. The appendix updates these critical discussions with more modern research. Michener is a master at simplifying, enlivening, and explaining complex historical and sociological movements and how they interacted with the particular prints illustrated. I think the book is well worth the cost simply based on Michener's discussions and the illustrations are a great bonus.
Hornet's Nest (Andy Brazil Book 1)
Hornet's Nest (Andy Brazil Book 1)
Readers: read this book for itself. Fiction reading is supposed to be entertaining, and this book definitely does that! Now, more detail. I am an ardent Patricia Cornwell fan, full disclosure. I've read all the books in the Kay Scarpetta series, and loved them all. Cornwell's writing style in the Scarpetta series is one thing, and in the Andy Brazil series, another. Scarpetta: unique, first person, deeply character-driven, filled with scientific detail, psychological, punctuated with escalating tension until the ultimate, thriller crime-scene-as-it-happens climax that you feel like you can't possibly live through. And then, the epilogue. Whew. Andy Brazil: filled with whacky characters you cannot HELP but love, rollicking, rolling scenes that made me laugh out loud, crime fighters galore and bad guys who - I love this - take a whooping, with all the white hats on top at the end. I guffawed so many times I lost count. The humor in this first Andy Brazil book is priceless! I think the book is wonderfully written and terrifically entertaining. It is NOT like Scarpetta, and shame on the editorial reviewers who made that comparison. I think it's genius when an author can create an entirely new voice for a new series.
Inside the Law
Inside the Law
Seven crooks head for California after their latest scam is a great success. They take the scenic route. Upon arrival, they start their new venture, impersonating a bank clerk and his staff. Only one problem, the bank in question doesn’t have any money as it has been robbed too many times already. Naturally, they put their ill-gotten gain in the vault and try to drum up business. They quickly run afoul of a highly suspicious cop who is up for reelection and needs to give the townsfolk a reason to vote for him, again. Then a bank inspector shows up. Could things get any worse…
Supposedly a comedy, this film is lacking the requisite humor and their grand scheme is fraught with great lapses in logic. Why risk impersonating someone who is still in town. At best this might be considered lighthearted, but it’s not. I didn’t hate it, I didn’t like it…eh.
Arsimus Magic Wand Halloween Accessory
Arsimus Magic Wand Halloween Accessory
The wand itself isn't bad per say, but I was lead to believe that the pictures are accurate renditions of how dark they are. This is NOT the case, as mine - dark black in pictures - is rather grey and streaked with brown.
Once again, it's not bad if that's the look you're going for, but I was not, as I wanted a truly black wand.
This makes me feel like buying these is akin to buying a "blind bag" type of product.
Thus, despite the wand being pretty sturdy and fairly detailed, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend these until Arsimus changes their product images, as it is now it feels akin to false advertising: There is no disclaimer or anything warning about image accuracy in the product description.
It's enough to discourage me from buying more out of fear that they will look different than described, which is a shame as these are pretty darn well-made for the price point!

This is a really fun book! It is also a great distraction from being stuck in the house right now. It has so many trivia questions even the biggest Harry Potter fan is gonna miss one or two lol. Wizarding World of Harry Potter Quidditch Battery Operated Flying Golden Snitch Toy with Moving Wings
Wizarding World of Harry Potter Quidditch Battery Operated Flying Golden Snitch Toy with Moving Wings
Disappointing. The box says "FLAPS WINGS AND FLIES". All it does is FLAP WINGS. That's it. There's no flying, although it says it will if you attach the string to your ceiling. If you hold it, it just vibrates at the end of the string, and that's pretty lame. My kid was so upset. She had been so excited about getting a flying golden snitch, only to be completely disappointed. It's just a loud, wing-flapping ball on a string. But the word "TETHERED" isn't as obvious on the box as FLAPS WINGS AND FLIES! is. "Tethered" only appears on one side of the box, and on the back of the box. Not the front or top. And, apparently, according to the other reviews, it's fragile as heck. In these days of flying drones and remote-control helicopters, Universal should be able to do better. And if they can't, they shouldn't use deceptive marketing to get kids hopes up. EDITED TO ADD: DO NOT PAY MORE THAN $26.95 FOR THIS IF YOU DO BUY IT. That's what it sells for AT UNIVERSAL THEME PARK. Anyone who's selling it for more is ripping you off. Sorry, I had to add that last part, once I noticed that this THIRD PARTY VENDOR IS SELLING IT FOR TWICE AS MUCH AS IT COSTS RETAIL. I hate people who intentionally rip people off. At Universal Theme Parks, where things are vastly overpriced, it sells for $26.95.

I ordered some Legos for my nephew for Christmas and I know that Legos have a tendency to be expensive but I was very disappointed with the small plastic bag of Legos that arrived. These are the small bags that you would not want to pay more than $5 for. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the shipping was quick, but overall I am just very disappointed at the quality vs. cost but didn't have time to get my nephew a replacement gift.
Forum Novelties Girl's Little Witch Costume
Forum Novelties Girl's Little Witch Costume
After looking for a Halloween costume I came across this one and had to get it.. My daughter fell in love with it. I was very worried about what size to order and went by the size chart available. My little girl is 3yrs old and usually wears size 4T. I ordered size (Small 4-6) and it was perfect for her. Very true to size. The material is very good and doesn't look cheap. What I loved the most is how the dress brings it's own hoop attached and this makes the dress look amazing.

A Successful Woman's Handbook: Fifty-One Ways To Build Your Community Of Clients Online: How Women Are Using The Web To Grow Their Business, Reach The Right Customers, And Make A Difference
I just happened to be getting ready to build a web site for a small business owner when I got this book - and what a great resource it was. It helped break down what could have been an overwhelming task into understandable and workable steps. Monica has a talent for sharing her experience and knowledge in a way that is welcoming, not condescending, and very reasonable, practical, and relevant to the way business is being done today. I'm glad her approach is from a woman business owner's perspective - but it would certainly be useful for anybody.
Brazilian Virgin Hair Loose Wave 3 Bundles 16" 18" 20" 300g 10A Brazilian Remy Virgin Human Hair Bundles 100% Unprocessed Virgin Remy Human Hair Bundles Natural Color
Brazilian Virgin Hair Loose Wave 3 Bundles 16" 18" 20" 300g 10A Brazilian Remy Virgin Human Hair Bundles 100% Unprocessed Virgin Remy Human Hair Bundles Natural Color
So I was skeptical about ordering this hair because for the price it seemed too good to be true.

Receipt of hair:
Upon receiving the hair, my initial thoughts were that it would be thin; although it was soft, I thought I would truly need all 4 bundles for my hair.

Install:
When I completed my installation, I found that I didn't need all four bundles. Only using the full 22", part of the 20, less of the 18 and even less of the 16. My head was very full trying to use as much as possible of all four lengths.

Wear:
The wave/curl pattern I have maintained over a two week period before wash, with 2 braids and a scarf each night before I sleep. A little bit of shine serum or frizz control when I take the braids out in the morning. Very little shedding even though I cut the wefts, and no tangles!

Wash:
So I just washed the hair... My choice of shampoo is silicon mix and conditioner by the same company. The hair wash was amazing. No brown water! So no presence of dye. No tangling and no shedding! The curl has also returned in full fashion.

So far so good. Will try to update with pictures. The Amazon app won't let me add them
adidas Men's Adizero Boston 8 Running Shoe
adidas Men's Adizero Boston 8 Running Shoe
This is my third pair of Bostons. I have used them for long interval training and shorter runs in the past, and have loved them for that purpose. I tried wearing this pair for a long run last week and decided never to do that again. I'm tall and weigh approximately 200 lbs, and the forefoot cushioning in these shoes just wasn't enough for my feet over a long run. For lighter runners with a more typical distance running build, I imagine these are great distance shoes, but I don't think they were engineered for crossover athletes or any larger runners looking to put in miles.

***UPDATE*** Well, never say "never." As these shoes broke in, which happened pretty quickly, I decided to give them another shot on a longer run. They were absolutely great -- lightweight, plenty of shock absorption and a really smooth ride. I've been doing just about everything in them since. Whatever I was feeling on that initial run was more about me than the shoe. These are great.
Spyderco Atlantic Salt Lightweight Folding Knife - FRN Handle with SpyderEdge, Hollow Grind, H-1 Steel Blade and Back Lock
Spyderco Atlantic Salt Lightweight Folding Knife - FRN Handle with SpyderEdge, Hollow Grind, H-1 Steel Blade and Back Lock
This is the BEST folding marine knife I have ever used. Period. Does not rust, anywhere, after exposure to salt water.
Perfect for marine and diving operations.

Mounting:
For those who want to attach a bolt snap or clip, the hole in the pocket clip bolt is large enough to accommodate a couple passes of cave line [braided nylon #24/#36] to tie on anything you please. It is also [barely] big enough for a single pass of 550 paracord, if you're persistent. If you remove the pocket clip bolt [and thus, the pocket clip], the hole is MUCH larger and easier to work with.

The pocket clip works fine up to 2" nylon webbing [often used in diving harnesses] and is perfect at 1.5-1.75" [rigging belts] but I wouldn't obviously rely on that for serious diving operations outside of a warm-water vacation. Tie a snap instead, and/or clip it inside your drysuit or BCD pocket! For surface work, the pocket clip is very stiff and springy, so it will be very secure on your board shorts/etc.

Useful bits:
The blade has an under-center action for the first 20* of opening. Meaning that, if something snags the blade and pops it open a bit, the bade will snap closed instead of staying where it is.
The tip is blunted, and therefore much safer to use for rescue, extraction, and environments that are constantly moving and slippery.
The molding of the grip is very good with wet hands.
There are no inserts for the grip, but under normal use [not prying] I don't notice ANY flex. Pushing sideways with this knife, there is minor flex, but that is far outside the use of this knife that it is not a concern for me.

Sharpening:
Just send it to Spyderco every off-season. It's a few bucks. Comes back perfect.
I sharpen all my plain blades, and have a serration kit should I have to do this one, but Spyderco does a far better job.

USE FOR: crewing on board any boat or dive work. Surfing. Keeping clipped to your life vest. Kayaking. Cutting lines, webbing, fishing line, etc. I already have two dedicated dive knives on my rig, but can take this in a pinch should the need arise.

NOT FOR: EDC, unless you literally live on a boat. The blade doesn't handle fine work well. At all. IF you choke wayyyy up on the blade, you can use just the last serration for fine cutting, but guess what, it's still a jagged finish!
This is okay, because when at sea I only carry to save lives. Fine blades and tools stay in the toolkit.

For EDC, around water, I would recommend the plain-edge version of this knife, as long as you are aware that it has a semi-pointed tip which makes it iffy for rescue, and often won't cut some of the new-age lines [Dyneema and Spectra] in one panicked swipe [the serrated version will].

These faux candles have a real wax exterior and flickering LED in the shape of a flame that make them seem almost like the real thing. At a glance they can easily be mistaken for the real thing, but after studying them a bit you can tell that the flame doesn't move around, and the flicker isn't quite the same as a real flame. They are not that bright, but match a real candle pretty well and definitely give the room a warm ambiance.

These candles are a bit smaller than I was expecting after looking at the picture. Specifically the diameter is about 2.2" when I thought they were going to be more like 3". Having a set of different height candles is nice and helps enhance the illusion that these are real candles.

I really like that these use two AA batteries instead of some smaller and less common batteries. Yes, that means a lot of batteries, but they should last a long time as these don't use very much power. I tried a set of NI-MH rechargeable cells and they worked fine.

The remote control works good to turn all the included candles on/off and change the modes. There is a timer mode, flicker vs. steady on mode, and the brightness can be controlled with the remote.

These would make a great gift for someone, especially if they like candles but don't dare to use them for fear of kids or pets knocking them over and burning the house down.

For most features these lights deserve a 4 or 5 star rating. If your application calls for a steady-on display then these should be on the top of your list. Unfortunately, any other mode, although available by pushing the button, is not retained in memory as stated in the item description. Like most users, I have my lights on a timer and they always return to the steady-on. Unfortunately I cannot return them because after first checking out that they lit, not checking the memory function, I spent 3 hours putting them on a tree... so they will stay there. Bottom line: ONLY recommended if your application calls for steady-on lighting.

VIVO Carrying Bag with Shoulder Strap for Portable 4:3 Projector Screen with Tripod, 72 inch, 84 inch and 100 inch Screen, Bag Only, PS-BAG-100
The bag definitely is long enough for the screen I have but is not wide enough in the center of the bag where the screen's carrying handle is. The material used in the bag's construction is very thin and lightweight, so I don't expect it to stand up to a lot of use. There are no reinforced areas at all. The straps and handles are very thin and low-grade. The zipper is a very poor quality and I expect it to burst at the center where the bag is stretched tight over the screen. I am not impressed with this bag at all and will shop around more next time.

ANGVNS Women Long Sleeve Chiffon Blouse V Neck Office Work Blouse for Women Dress Shirts Tops
Loved this top due to the following reasons!
✓ I am 5'2" - 120 lbs - US Size 2. This top fits me perfectly. The length is such that this top extends exactly up to my hip. Not even an inch below the hip. So this doesn't give one an awkward look. At the same time, it maintains a cute and classy look!
✓ I paired this top with black formal pants to get a semi formal look. Also, this top can be paired with black/blue/white jeans to get a casual look. That's what I love the most about this top. It goes with most pants that I own ( Color matters! I got the wine red colored top). I don't prefer wearing this top with leggings because the length is too short.
✓ The top is of good quality chiffon Material. Never gave out color during washes. I have washed this top a couple of times till date. It has not shrunk either. The zip and buttons are of good quality too. The zip works fine and the gold color of the zip and buttons hasn't faded at all!! Well, I do iron this top after each wash to make it look crisp.
✓ The wine red top is not transparent. I'm not sure about the other colors.
✓ The product arrived on time and in perfect condition. No damages at all.
So as a conclusion, I loved using this top. I hope you do too. Also, I'll update my review in case my opinions about this top change after using it for a longer time.

Ziyad Brand Butter Ghee, Clarified Butter, Perfect High Heat Cooking, Roasted Vegetables, Sautées, Hot Drinks (Chaider) and Finishing Oil! 16 oz
This product comes in a glass jar exactly as pictured. The Ghee is a nice golden yellow color with a rich, buttery taste. It does not indicate that the milk comes from grassfed cows (if not indicated it probably doesn't), however the taste is comparable to more expensive grassfed ghee I have purchased elsewhere which is a plus. An upside of ghee is that since milk solids have been removed it is excellent in high heat cooking without burning as regular butter would, and a little goes a really long way as the flavor is quite concentrated. It is excellent for cooking as an oil, and simply drizzled on vegetables, popcorn, etc. for the butter flavor. Most ghee is shelf stable and does not need refrigeration, however please note that this jar specifically indicates that this product should be refrigerated after opening which results in a solidification of the product hence the loss of a star. While that warning may simply be to extend the life of the product or as a precautionary measure, it is inconvenient storing what is typically a shelf stable product in the fridge as it turns into a solid brick that requires a spoon to scrape out which can be annoying considering the fairly narrow opening. Overall a good flavor and a decent price for the amount you get, but I may consider buying elsewhere in the future since it needs to be kept in the fridge and then scraped out and I'm not willing to risk wasting a jar to test out whether or not the fridge warning is just a precautionary measure.

MADE WITH PORK!!!
The images of the product (on Amazon) show the ingredients, but there is no indication that it is made with PORK GELATIN!
I found out after eating a few, and was horrified as I do not eat pork.
This is deceptive and very dangerous, disrespectful to our religious, our vegans, and many others who don't eat pork.
Katjes Lakritz Batzen 200g / 7oz (Soft Licorice)
Katjes Lakritz Batzen 200g / 7oz (Soft Licorice)
The Lakritz Batzen from Katjes are about as close as you'll get to a licorice gumdrop that still has the flavor of good European licorice. Covered with a light sugary coating, this fairly firm jelly-like drop is easy to eat. Although there may be a very slight salmiak Isalty) overtone, this is a relatively sweet licorice treat. My wife and I have been the co-owners of a candy store for more than a decade that specializes in gourmet licorice from around the world. The Lakritz Batzen have always been one of our best selling varieties. They are especially good for those who have trouble chewing some of the harder varieties of European licorice. This is about the softest licorice available from Katjes.
